Cissus quadrangularis is an indigenous medicinal plants of india.Ancient ayurvedic literature mentons its use as a general tonic and analgesic .It is also known to be a potent antiosteoporotic antiarthritic agent.

phytochemical studies reveal the presence of triterpenes ,ketostero,phenols tannins carotene, vitamin c flavonids, quercetin and kaempferol in the whole plant extract.

In an experimental study paste of alcoholic extract of c quadrangularis was applied locally and administered intramuscularly to albino rats for fracture healing
The treated group showed rapid development of cortical bone and trabeculae which may be due to high level of calcium phosphorous and phytoestrogenic steroids in the extract .The treated group also showed early bone regeneration and remineralization thus demonstration the rapid fracture healing property of C quadrangularis .
Another recent research regarding the effects of the C quadrangularis extract osteoblast differentiation and function was done using murine osteoblastic cells
The results of this study suggest that C quadrangularis may regulate osteoblastic activity of the cell by enhancing the alkaline phosphate activity and mineralization process .
